Supporting Innovative FinTech, Taxamo, as it Revolutionises Tax Management

Irish Fin Tech, Taxamo, is revolutionising tax management for businesses selling online across the globe. Founded in 2013, Taxamoā€™s solutions cover VAT, GST, and US sales tax, and are tailored to individual business needs. Since its launch, Taxamo has managed billions of transactions globally.

A change in the law that was brought in on 1 January 2015 meant that companies have to pay VAT based on the country where the customer bought your product, not the country the seller is based in. VAT MOSS (which stands for Value Added Tax: Mini One Stop Shop) was introduced so that UK sellers could just pay VAT to HMRC, instead of having to register for VAT in every EU country.

Taxamo was early to recognise key changes to how governments and the EU tax digital services. It set out codifying national sales tax regulations in digital goods across the EU and further afield. With the introduction of VAT MOSS in the EU blocks (and similar trends in the US and Asia) Taxamo was able to offer a functional attuned SaaS platform for commerce merchants to allow them to easily comply with complex EU VAT regulations for B2C digital product sales.

Taxamoā€™s team is dedicated to resolving the complex issues of global VAT/GST compliance on digital service sales for enterprise-level businesses.

Supplying Taxamo With a Long-Standing CTO

Keeper provided the earliest technical capability to Taxamo in the form of a single senior Clojure developer. The initial engagement enabled Taxamo to complete the technical and UX design of their MVP. Taxamo was then able to launch its MVP with a select group of beta-clients.

Following an immensely successful engagement, Taxamo wished to appoint the initial Keeper developer as their CTO. A deal was concluded enabling Tomek Lipski to become Taxamo CTO, a position which he has held ever since. Keeper has continued to support Taxamo with a number of experienced Clojure developers located remotely in Eastern Europe.

Projects to date have included the initial technical architecture design, MVP product build out, ongoing product enhancements, development of eCommerce plug-ins, and ongoing support and maintenance.

Empowering Taxamo to Become an Industry Leader

The partnership with Keeper Solutions allowed Taxamo to design and build its core product and its technical team. With Keeperā€™s help, Taxamo was able to get its product to market quickly and effectively. The company has gone from strength to strength ever since and is now an established market leader.

In 2015, Taxamo extended its offering to non-EU organisations. This included those in Iceland, Japan, Korea, Norway, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States. In April 2020, Taxamo announced a new multi-million euro deal with Deloitte for a digital tax compliance service for online marketplaces and sellers. This was launched ahead of the introduction of new VAT reporting requirements, scheduled to come into effect in 2021.

At Keeper Solutions, we are incredibly proud of the part weā€™ve played in Taxamoā€™s success.

We continue to support this excited and innovative FinTech firm to this day.
